“If we celebrate the years behind us, they become stepping stones of strength and joy for the years ahead.”

Don’t know who said this, but it is a very profound statement.  Celebrate the years behind you!  Those experiences have made you the person you are today.  Forgive yourself.  Like me, you are probably your worse critic.  Forgive others.  Maybe they were meant to be in your life for only a short time.  Maybe they are just a reflection of what you really feel about yourself.  Think about it.  With the ending of 2013, look at it as a time of reflection, forgiveness, and letting go.

Love your life and look forward to the abundance and joy of the new year that is to come!

Can you sleep?

There’s nothing worse than not being able to go to sleep when you get into bed.  Your intention is to get a good night’s sleep, but then you just can’t shut your mind down and relax your body.

There are many things you can do like listening to soothing music, counting sheep, and drinking warm milk or perhaps a warm bath before bed.  All these steps certainly do not hurt.  And they say, if you can’t sleep just get out of bed.  That way, you won’t have negative thoughts about your bed.

Part of the solution is training your mind.  Select a word that helps the body to relax, like the word “peace”.  Think about that word two or three times a day and feel the relaxation that sweeps over your body.  Another trick is meditation, which is good for us in many ways.  The key is to reduce stimuli.  Try some stretching exercises before bed, visualize success, breathe deep, and exercise during the day and not close to bedtime.

Another important factor is to have the right bedding.  You want to create a soothing oasis of calm and relaxation.  It’s important for the body to be cradled in a bed that feels wonderful to the body.  Old bedding can result in discomfort and poor sleep.

Once I improved my bedding, by adding a mattress pad,  a featherbed like they have at upscale hotels, soft Egyptian cotton sheets,  a lightweight down blanket, a lightweight down comforter, and the best down pillows, I started to sleep better and deeper.  Finally, I added a duvet because I wanted color on my bed.  Anything you can do to add comfort to your bed will help.

Bring on The Eggnog!

I love this time of year.  Last month, I wrote about pumpkin and now I’m into eggnog.  I love it so much that I have to allow myself only one-half cup each day or I would drink the whole container.

It’s interesting how the flavors of the season bring us comfort.  Not only are we stuffing our faces, we are indulging in seasonal items to make our homes comfortable and beautiful.  We’re thinking about decorations for the home, entertaining, giving to others, and putting up the Christmas tree.  I love the spirit of Christmas and wish we could continue the spirit and generosity of Christmas throughout the year.

This Holiday Season, think about the gift of giving someone a wonderful and soft down comforter, or down pillows to rest a weary head.  The bedroom is the place to replenish the body and soul.  It is and should be your most comfortable place of beauty, peace, and comfort.  A new featherbed can cradle the body, new soft and luxurious egyptian cotton sheets can feel soft against the skin, and duvets can add beauty.

Time for another cup of eggnog while I wrap up in my down blanket.  Enjoy!

 

 

October and Pumpkin

Wow!  I don’t know about you, but I have been hooked on anything pumpkin this Fall.  I love pumpkin butter on toast or crackers.  The other day, I found a pumpkin cream cheese spread….yummy!  Have you tried the pumpkin waffles?  This weekend, I plan on going to the pumpkin festival and eating pumpkin donuts.  I’m sure I’ll find other pumpkin stuff there to eat.

With all this pumpkin eating, I made sure I am working out also.  Hopefully, I’m working off some of these extra calories.  Now, I’m thinking about making pumpkin bars and pumpkin cheesecake sounds awfully good!
