The Spirit of Christmas

Hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and that it was all you hoped it would be.  At this time of year, we think about giving to family and friends, and realize how grateful we are for all that we have.  We think about others who are less fortunate and and open our generous hearts to many.

We reflect on this past year, and look forward to the new year with hope.  Think about it!  Each day, we wake up with another chance to do things better.  Looking forward to 2013, we have an opportunity to make things better for our families and for ourselves.

We’ve had many challenges these past few years, but we’re still here and we made it through.  We are all just doing the best we can.  Christmas gives us a chance of renewal.  Renewal of the spirit and the soul.  Maybe things are changing and people are more in their hearts than in their heads.  Time will tell.

Calvin Coolidge said “Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.”

May you have and receive the “Spirit of Christmas”  throughout the coming year.

What’s Become of the Land of the Free

Today, our country morns for the children and adults killed so needlessly in Newtown, Connecticut. Last week, we heard about a shooting at a mall in Oregon. Before that, it was a shooting in a movie theater.
Our hearts are weeping. We’ve endured too many tragedies. The grief is overwhelming. Who could do such a thing? And, to our children?
No matter how much we try to understand someone’s pain that would make them kill another person, we cannot mentally go there.
So, have we finally hit rock bottom to where the only way to go is up? Have we finally had enough to force this country to do something about it? How can we change as a collective people? How can we protect ourselves and our children?
With freedom comes great responsibility. Maybe we need to go back to the ideals we once had where there was respect for life and for each other. Maybe we need to have more compassion for one another and become a society who looks out for one another.
What’s become of the greatest country on earth? What’s become of the land of the free and what can each one of us do to make it a better world?
